Restylane® and Perlane are gels that are injected into wrinkles
to smooth the surface of the skin and fill the
crease that the wrinkle has made, or to enhance
the fullness of the lips. Made from non-animal
hyluronic acid, they have been proven to
be safe and effective by numerous cosmetic
clinics. Sculptra is injected into the skin to promote collagen production and reduce facial lines.
As with any cosmetic procedure, patients may
experience some minor side effects after
treatment. Initial localised swelling at the
injection site is normal, and lip treatments
sometimes result in a short term uneven
appearance or more pronounced swelling, but
these usually disappear within a week and lips
become smooth and even again. Bruising, cold
sores or acne may occur around the site of the
injections but these are almost always
temporary and usually clear within a couple of
weeks of treatment.
In most cases the gel provides good results
almost immediately and patients can expect the
effects to last about 12 months. The natural
substances within Restylane® gradually lose
their effectiveness and we therefore recommend
repeat treatments at yearly intervals.
Our clinic will be pleased to talk to you about
the benefits and side-effects of these cosmetic
treatments and discuss any concerns you may
have.
